Apple Touch

I recently purchased an Apple Touch. I do not consider it to be a photographer's tool or gadget but it does do some nice things for us if you own one. The display for a pocket device is crisp and fast. Looking at a photo on my Touch is more exciting than looking at many 4X6" prints. That is because it is bright and with a movement of fingers across the screen you can zoom in. Storage capacity is only 8 GB. You can buy them up to 32GB I believe but in the photo world that is not much. The only way right now to add or remove photos is to use a PC with Itunes software. This is not hard to do but it would be nice to have a flash drive of some sort built in so that images could be uploaded while in the field. The other most impressive aspect of this pocket device is that it is wifi and allows me to get on the Internet. It does this with ease using it's own Apple browser called Safari. Being a long time pc user it takes some getting use to using the "Apple way" to do things but it is a fun gadget to have.
If you were looking for a field device to transfer images from camera for viewing or just temporary storage, this is not it. If you want a quick and easy way to show someone some of your photos and to be able to check email or go online without lugging a notebook this might work for about $300. If you have other questions let me know.

My daughter bought an iPhone on the first day they came out. These are terrific devices. I think the design is top notch. Now, all we need is to get you to dump your PC stuff and move over to the Apple side of the Force with the rest of us. I guess the iTouch is a good first step. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

How does your daughter find using her finger to type and operate the Internet. I have been using a Palm and Pocket PC for years and became used to a stylus. My fingers are as thin and skinny as anyones but I still frequently hit the wrong key or button. I am learning to use the ball of my finger to get the job done. It works but takes a bit of getting used to. I am wondering if there is a way to use a stylus with the touch. If it uses body heat to cause a reaction then maybe I will invent a heated stylus. :-)

From what I know about this product, it seems to learn your fingering preferences and anticipates word completions and character choices. I don't know how well it works but I do know that when I tried her phone, I had a few problems. I also had the sense that I'd learn the iPhone at about the same time the iPhone would learn me. Fortunately, after a few minutes, I handed it back. I didn't want to get hooked because I didn't want to shell out the cash for a new one. (Back then, it was a $600 toy.)

I don't know what the technology is that recognizes your finger tips. I'm guessing a stylus wouldn't work.

As with anything new, it takes time. Your body will adjust. What's new is that the iTouch is making adjustments too. Neat.
